For those looking for a quintessentially British seaside holiday, a cottage holiday in the
Suffolk town of Aldeburgh could well be for you. This small town is very popular with tourists, perhaps due to its easy access to London.
The beach at Aldeburgh is mainly made-up of stones, so don't expect to build too many sandcastles! The large beach is excellent for relaxing, and you can cool yourself in the North Sea - and I do mean cool yourself. The beach and sea around Aldeburgh is still used by small fishing boats, and you can buy fresh fish directly off the fishermen at some of the huts on the beach.
Aldeburgh is a lovely small town, which contains a famous fish and chip shop – although I haven't actually tried the wares, as every time I venture into Aldeburgh there is a huge queue.
A short walk from Aldeburgh is Thorepness, this is another unique Suffolk village, and famous for the "
house in the clouds". There is also a massive boating lake on the Meare. Although the expanse of water is huge, the water never gets more than about 3 foot deep, so even if you don't quite have your sea legs yet, renting a rowing boat or canoe in Thorepness shouldn't cause you a problem.
We've listed some holiday cottages below which are around the Aldeburgh and Thorpeness area. This part of Suffolk is lovely, and well worth a nice peaceful cottage holiday.
