Details of Mas Lucille

Mas Lucille in Provence-Alpes, France sleeps 10 people. This is Provence at its best – a beautifully restored 18th century bastide with glorious Luberon views towards Mont Ventoux from its swimming pool, just a short walk from the perched village of Ménerbes, made especially famous by Peter Mayle's ‘A Year in Provence'.

Historically, Mas Lucille was once a ‘magnanerie' yet an immense amount of care and restoration over recent years has transformed it into a high-end holiday home in Provence. There's historic detail in every room such as original stone walls and exposed woodwork, all contrasting perfectly with modern additions including air-conditioning in four of the bedrooms and the lounge's picture-book windows framing the idyllic scenery.

Sleeping up to 10 guests, find five bedrooms scattered across the house, most with en suite shower rooms. We adore the character of the king-size double found just off the lounge with its vaulted stone ceiling as well as the elegant bedroom reached via one of the garden terraces. Upstairs there is an en suite double and connecting twin, ideal for a family, whilst the fifth duplex bedroom is set apart from the house in the former barn.

Relax on the poolside sun loungers or sit with your coffee and gaze out towards the landscapes of the Luberon. Sit beneath the shaded terrace on warm summer evenings for al-fresco meals. The garden is full of the sights and scents of Provence with roses, olive trees, almond trees and truffle oaks.

Wander up the hilly road for more incredible vistas from the village of Ménerbes, classified as one of France's ‘Plus Beaux Villages'. A place of Luberon charm, potter around its narrow lanes and come across a small handful of restaurants (book ahead!). Its Thursday morning market is a lovely way to pick up some delicious local produce.

Passing woodland, cherry orchards and vineyards, this part of the Luberon is wonderful for walkers, keen cyclists, wine enthusiasts and gastronomes with many excellent restaurants and markets dotted across other nearby villages – Gordes, Bonnieux and Roussillon are all within easy reach.

Slightly further afield, canoe or kayak from Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, seek out antique treasures in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, visit the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Avignon or even spend the day embracing the romance of Aix-en-Provence in this alluring part of southern France. <
