Maison Luberon in Provence-Alpes, France sleeps 8 people. This four-bedroomed, distinctively Provençal country house sits just a short walk away from the charming village of Maubec, and is an ideal base for up to six guests wishing to explore the glorious Luberon region. As you arrive through the gates at Maison Luberon, the heady scent of lavender in the air marries with the delightful sight of this traditionally-styled property, along with its equally impressive, immaculately landscaped gardens.

Along with its archetypal cream Luberon stone walls and window shutters that greet you on arrival, this fetching house's tasteful interior most definitely matches its external styling. Elegant yet cosy, the open-plan living area welcomes you with a large, comfortable sofa and chairs, ideal for winding down with a glass or two of local wine in front of the television. There's a wood burner, making it quick and easy to keep the chill at bay, should your visit fall during cooler months. A small work area with a desk and chair gives delightful views to the garden while you catch up with emails, with a vintage upright piano to play, should the mood take you! There's plenty of natural light during the day, courtesy of the large double-glazed patio doors, which, along with the house's stone walls, help to keep this snug living space cool.

The superbly appointed kitchen, with portes-fenêtre leading to a shaded dining area, has a farmhouse-style dining table - both offering seating for up to six at mealtimes – is a cook's delight. There's plenty of room to store fresh local produce – and local white wines, of course – in the large Smeg fridge/freezer, with a matching Smeg range cooker to prepare dinner. To the rear of the kitchen is a guest WC, as well as a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer.

Upstairs, you have a choice of three bedrooms, all with terrific views. The serene master bedroom, with its four-poster and day beds facing out to a balcony overlooking the pool and garden, is complemented by a large and beautifully styled en-suite bathroom. It's not just the free-standing bath, walk-in rainfall shower and window to the balcony that impress in here, but also thoughtful design touches like the chandelier light and gorgeous brass faucets that reiterate the attention to detail paid throughout this superb house. The second and third bedrooms, both featuring sumptuous double beds with antique features, roomy wardrobes and appealing views - at opposite sides of the house, are served by a shower room and separate WC. An independent annexe is home to the fourth bedroom as well as a further bathroom with a shower and workspace.

Aptly named, Maison Luberon‘s striking gardens are replete with stone walls, immaculate topiary and manicured lawns, as well as occasional tall cypress and other trees native to the region. The dining table with pergola outside the kitchen doors, sun loungers at the poolside terrace and shaded archway beneath the upstairs balcony offer a choice of great spots to relax throughout the day. The ten-metre pool, basketball hoop, fully equipped boules court and table tennis table are perfect for those gaps between sunbathing sessions too! The entrance is protected by automatic gates, with the driveway having plenty of parking space, including shaded parking for two vehicles.

Maison Luberon is situated on the outskirts of Maubec, a hidden gem nestled in a glorious Provençal landscape of vineyards. You will find all essential shopping needs catered for here during your stay, all within walking distance (around a quarter of an hour), as well as some well-regarded eateries. Hiking and cycling opportunities abound among the Luberon hills, and whether you prefer an undulating route or a more sedate pace, you will never fail to be astounded by the natural beauty surrounding you.

Maubec itself offers a compact, less physically taxing walk to its summit than its grander perched neighbours like Gordes. You will also find terrific days out virtually on your doorstep, with local museums showcasing some of the region's famous exports – lavender, olive oil, honey and wine. Explore village markets with artisanal fabrics, foods and more, along with art galleries and independent boutiques. With no more than an hour's drive required, why not head out a little further to the banks of the Rhône and explore the rich historical history of Avignon, or take your pick from one of Marseille's nineteen spectacular beaches?
