Once a market garden, where tourists would row across the lake for its main crop, Strawberries, now a two-bedroom lakeside retreat brimming with original features from the slate floors, exposed beams to the old range in the lounge.Â
Bring your own kayak or canoe and launch it from the jetty in the garden. You could also loop onto the lakeshore path and head north to Wray Castle or amble along to the newly restored Claife Viewing Station with its spectacular viewpoint and charming little café.
For restaurants and retail therapy Bowness is just a short ferry ride across the lake and Ambleside, situated at the top of Lake Windermere, is a twenty minute drive. The town is surrounded by countryside, with fells, woodland, and the quirky little Bridge House and a Roman fort all to be discovered.
