High Strawberry Gardens sits within metres of the west shore of Windermere, complete with its own jetty for you to watch the scenery unfold. Once a market garden, where tourists would row across the lake for its main crop, Strawberries, the two-bedroom cottage is now a comfortable lakeside retreat with room for four people.Â
Bring your own kayak or canoe and launch it from the jetty in the garden. You could also loop onto the lakeshore path and head north to Wray Castle or amble along to the newly restored Claife Viewing Station with its spectacular viewpoint and charming little café.
For restaurants and retail therapy Bowness is just a short ferry ride across the lake and Ambleside, situated at the top of Lake Windermere, is a 20-minute drive. The town is surrounded by countryside, with fells, woodland, and the quirky little Bridge House and a Roman fort all to be discovered.
