Step out of the front door and there’s plenty to do, be it crabbing on the quayside with the kids, kayaking, riverside and forest walks, exploring the estuary in your own boat or visiting bohemian Totnes and bustling Dartmouth.
Head down twelve steps from the parking area to enter this bright and sunny property, walking into the open plan kitchen, living and dining area on the first floor. The space makes relaxing easy, with double doors opening out onto the balcony, which has panoramic views of the river beyond. Enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal at the large dining table or relax on the comfortable sofas in front of the Smart TV and wood burner, which really makes the space feel cosy during those cooler months. Two of the bedrooms are also on the first floor with garden views to the back of the property. Follow the spiral staircase downstairs to the ground floor, where there is a second living area with comfortable sofas, beautiful views of the river and double doors leading out to the garden. This really is the perfect space to relax with a good book. The ground floor also showcases the third bedroom which has a king-size bed, a large walk-in wardrobe and views to the side of the property.
Stoke Gabriel is a pretty village where the cottages tumble down a hill that overlooks the picturesque Dart Estuary, and is surrounded by some truly beautiful countryside. There are some great local walks, two pubs within a couple of minutes walk, a waterside bistro just a few seconds walk away, a restaurant, an art gallery and a shop. The location of this pretty medieval village allows easy access for exploring the beaches and coastline of Devon or nearby Dartmoor.
There is extensive wildlife in the area for animal lovers, with egrets and otters, and if you are lucky you might even spot a seal. For adults there are plenty of beautiful walks, Agatha Christie’s country house, Greenway, owned by the National Trust, is close by, a river trip down to Dartmouth or up to Totnes is a must, and the English Riviera is just a few miles away. Family days out are plentiful with the long sandy beaches of the English Riviera on your doorstep, an array of riverside restaurants along with Paignton Zoo and Splashdown waterpark. The interesting town of Totnes is just 4 miles away, known for its alternative vibe, independent shops and monthly Good Food Market. The fishing port and popular resort of Brixham is just 7 miles, where you can pick up an outstanding fish supper, freshly caught as the trawlers bring in the daily catch. They say Stoke Gabriel is the best kept secret in Devon, and a stay at Driftwood Lodge is sure to convince you.
