Beach Cottage - a holiday cottage in Pakefield, on the Suffolk coast

For anyone looking for a small holiday cottage on the Suffolk coast, I'd like to take this opportunity to recommend Beach Cottage. A recently renovated building, Beach Cottage is what estate agents might call compact & bijou; but is perfect for a couple looking for a cottage holiday by the sea. And when I say by the coast, I really do mean by the coast - none of this "if you look over the roofs of those houses, and squint a bit, you'll see the sea" - Beach Cottage is on the very edge of the beach. I need to lay my cards on the table now - I'm not completely independent when expressing my views on Beach Cottage - I've known the owner, Chris, for getting on for 25 years; so watched in anticipation as he redeveloped this old building into the master piece which is Beach Cottage. The building hasn't always been a house, a recent article in the local newspaper called "How's this for a Pakefield former loo with a view?" will give you an idea of Beach Cottage's previous life. That's all behind it now though, and what you have now is a spectacular holiday cottage just perfect for 2 people.

 

Where to find Beach Cottage

Beach Cottage is on the Suffolk Coast, in the village of Pakefield - which is south (but attached to) Lowestoft - the most easterly point in the UK! If you're still not sure where I mean, have a look further down at Beach Cottage on a map - that should clear up any doubts about Beach Cottage's location.

This cottage is very much on the coast. The only thing separating Beach Cottage from the beach is the coastal footpath - this footpath runs north to Lowestoft (about a mile away from Beach Cottage) and continues south into Pakefield. Just so you know what I'm talking about I shot this video standing outside Beach Cottage - it's a pity the day was slightly misty as you don't get the full "sun over the sea" experience, but you do get to see Beach Cottage and its surroundings.

Should I holiday at Beach Cottage

Beach Cottage isn't huge. Sleeping 2 people in one double bedroom, Beach Cottage is ideally suited for a couple. That being said, Chris also owns Pebble Cottage, two doors down from Beach Cottage. With Pebble Cottage sleeping 4 people - so you could always rent Beach Cottage and Pebble Cottage together.

 

Should you fancy some coastal walks, Beach Cottage would make an ideal base. You can walk north to Lowestoft, and the Broads at Oulton Broad; or south along the beach to Southwold. Beach Cottage is a good place to stay to enjoy a spot of cycling too. You can cycle along Lowestoft's promenade - or head out into the Suffolk countryside. I cycled to Beach Cottage when visiting Chris to take these photos & video - so can personally vouch for the cycling credentials the position of Beach Cottage offers.

Just to touch on what is included at Beach Cottage: you have a TV; radio; central heating; washing machine; Wi-Fi; bed linen & towels are also included in the price of your holiday. Outside you have a gravel area with a couple of chairs and a table - so you can enjoy a cup of tea while taking in those sea views!
