Wexford is a heritage town, where places like Selskar and Keyser recall its viking past. Wexford town is probably most famous for its Opera Festival. The town boasts many cultural contributions; playwright Billy Roche and children's book author Eoin Colfer, John Francesca Elgee Speranza, poet and mother of Oscar Wilde. The Wexford Arts Centre hosts a continous programme of plays, music, film and exhibitions celebrating loca, national and international arts. Walking tours of the town take place daily from the Westgate Heritage Centre now both a visitor centre and art gallery. Wexford prides itself with its award winning Quay front (directly across the road from the holiday home). Locals and Visitors alike can enjoy a pleasant 4 mile stroll along the Slaney side. The quay is centre stage for all of the town's festive activities. The nearby Raven wood is extremely popular with local walkers. Curracloe Beach is the finest in this area, while its ajoining Ballineskar Beach was the location where the Mormandy landing scenes for spielberg's epic, Saving Private Ryan was filmed.
