Facilities at 7649
The Cottage is over 150 years old and was originally the home farm for a local family, the Graces. Our central location provides an ideal base for touring Ireland, or you can stay at home and relax by a turf fire in a tranquil setting surrounded by countryside on all sides. The local pub The Fairways Bar and Orchard Restaurant, on the Dublin Road, provides excellent food in comfortable surroundings and is only a walk or bike ride away. Our nearest Village, Cloughjordan, the home of Ireland's first Eco Village, also boasts a restaurant, 4 public houses, shops and a bookshop/coffee shop. Graces Bar plays host to an Irish Night most Mondays when Irish is spoken and Irish traditional Music is played. All welcome but musicians particularly. There is often music on Thursday nights at Grace's bar also and again all are welcome to join in singing and/or playing. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Cloughjordan (5 miles from the property) has an Arts Festival 23rd to 29th of June where sport, music, dancing, film, art, drama, crafts and just plain fun can be had by all the family. There is a farmer's market twice monthly in Cloughjordan on Saturday mornings from 10 till 1p.m. where organic produce, plants, cakes and other goodies, books etc., can be purchased. Nenagh (5 miles from the property) is a bustling provincial town which contains a host of shops, public houses, restaurants, coffee shops, a 3 screen Cinema, Heritage Centre and the remains of a Franciscan Abbey. Horse riding and treks are available at Rory O'Connor's Stables just outside of the town. Farmers Market every Friday morning, flowers, baked goods, vegetables etc., available. Garrykennedy (10 miles from the property) has a marina, woodland walk and two pubs including Larkins which has a bar and restaurant where live music is often played. Terryglas (15 miles from the property) is an award winning village on the shores of Lough Derg with 2 outstanding pubs both serving good food. Just a short walk from the centre of the village takes you down to the lake and the marina. Portumna (15 miles from the property) a small but busy town with restaurants, public houses, shopes and which also boasts a marina and a large area of woodland in which you can walk and where the visitor might spot the shy red deer. You can visit Portumna Castle and view the remains of the old cloisters down by the Marina. Killaloe (20 miles from the property) is another heritage town on the banks of Lough Derg where you can visit the Brian Boru Heritage Centre, take a trip on the lake on the Spirit of Killaloe (which has a bar on board!) visit St. Flannan's Cathedral, walk along the banks of the canal and enjoy fine food and drink in many restaurants and eating houses in both Killaloe and its sister town Ballina on the other side of the bridge crossing the water. Birr (15 miles from the property) is an interesting town to visit and there are many shops, restaurants and public houses again but of greater interest is Birr Castle and Demesne and the Arboreteum a great draw for tourists and locals alike.
