Truro (Cornwall’s capital, cathedral, sophisticated shops, culture, but quite small), and the beginning of wooded creek Cornwall, 14 miles, while behind St Austell rise the extraordinary, spectacular china clay ‘mountains’, enclosing villages that produce some of Cornwall’s best brass bands. The north coast, Newquay and the surfing beaches, 15 miles. ... 1/4 mile by a little lane out of Trewoon, and down an inviting drive, a fine, basically 16th cent., Grade Il listed manor house in 6 acres of grounds (croquet), woods and small meadows. An ancient stone-walled track beneath old sycamores and beeches leads intriguingly to an ornate well - holy? - and traces of another garden, long foresaken: theories and archaeologists welcome. Private walled garden - pictured right - (overlooked by just one other cottage) and patio (table/chairs) beside a little pond (unfenced). All peaceful, well away from traffic and passers-by.
