set in a sheltered valley on one of Cornwall’s southern peninsulas; Porth Barn, a former farm building, has been converted by the National Trust into a large spacious house for six. The pretty and large garden is lawned and provides the perfect spot for evening barbeques or alfresco dinners under the willow tree. The delights of Towan Beach are just five minutes’ walk from the cottage and is a perfect place to relax at. Children will love exploring the rock pools at nearby Porthcurnick beach at low tide. If it’s an old fashioned beach holiday that you are after, then Porth Barn is the spot. The combination of cliffs, creeks, estuaries, headlands, woods and beaches linked by many miles of footpath, gives a fantastic variety of walking routes. Pick your route to suit your mood, as well as the weather! For a slower pace sit back and enjoy the spectacular views from nearby St Anthony Head.
The area is rich with history and attractions. During the summer you can get the ferry from Place to the sailing town of St Mawes, with its superb selection of restaurants, cafes, art galleries and shops. Why not go for early coffee on the quayside? Kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and sailing are all bookable in the town. The walk to the castle on the point is well worth the effort to watch the ships and boats coming and going from Falmouth
across the water. Molunan, a small beach close to the property has a bird hide nearby to enable you to watch the abundant sea birds, while others can relax on the beach or take the opportunity to go crabbing amongst the rock pools. The Roseland
Peninsula, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, has many pretty little fishing villages clinging to its edges.
The villages of Gerrrans and Portscatho with its artist colony, where you may pick up a bargain from one of the many galleries is nearby. There are many beaches along the coastline, and Roseland’s Porthcurnick beach even has its own ‘Hidden Hut’ - a beach based pop up restaurant, well worth booking in advance. The Eden Project
