Stoke: little village with outstanding 14th-15th cent. church,  3/4 mile from perhaps the most spectacular (and easily accessible) cliffs in the West Country, at Hartland Quay (hotel/pub, rocky cove beach). No easily accessible sandy beaches round here but good beaches at Westward Ho!, Bude and Instow, all within 20 miles. For shops and more pubs, Hartland , 1 miles via pretty wooded-valley lane. Clovelly (famous traffic-free cliff village), 5 miles. Bideford, 15 miles.
