Appledore: village (church, pubs, fish/chip shop, shops, PO, galleries, maritime museum) of old cottages and narrow streets at the mouth of the Taw and Torridge estuary, with a long tradition of boat building and fishing. Fresh fish sometimes available from the quay. Beach across the water at Instow for watersports. Huge sandy beach and golf at Westward Ho!, 2 miles. Trout/salmon fishing along the Torridge and, beside it, the excellent Tarka Trail cycle track. Bideford and Barnstaple, 2 and 10 miles. in Appledore, near the lifeboat station, one of a neat Victorian terrace of cottages with terrific views over the estuary of the rivers Taw and Torridge. Lots of interesting maritime and avian activity to observe, so well worth packing binoculars.
In front, a tiny bit of walled area, at the back, a courtyard (table/chairs) on two levels, the upper level leading to a back gate. Inside, a lot of recent work (2008) has been done to provide a comfy family home.
Front door to hall; cosy front of house living room looking out over the estuary with lots of afternoon sunlight through bay windows and attractive fireplace (living-flame gas fire); dining room at the back, full of morning sunlight; neat fitted kitchen (dishwasher, microwave) with back door to garden. Washer-drier in understair cupboard. From hall, steep stairs up to two bedrooms a double with great views, and a single; bathroom (suite plus separate shower). More stairs up to an attic room with a double (5’ bed) and a sofa bed, more great views, and brand new en suite wet-room/loo.
No smoking. 100 yards to coastal path, little pebbly rock-pool beach, pub.
