On the coast lies the historic seaport of Whitby (21miles) with 3miles of sandy beaches, cobbled streets, ruined Abbey and colourful harbour. Further along, huddled into the cliff-side, are the tiny fishing villages of Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hood's Bay, once the haunt of smugglers, while the popular resort of Scarborough is 17miles away, offering excellent theatres, shopping and family entertainment.
