A good touring base
This spacious detached former farmhouse dates back from about 1790. Whilst it has been restored to modern standards, it does retain many original features, including slate floors, beams and an inglenook fireplace. It enjoys views over the local countryside, which also take in the RSPB reserve at Ynys Hir. On the edge of the village of Eglwysfach, it stands on the A487 between Machynlleth (5 miles) and Aberystwyth (15 miles) - both of which are interesting places to visit. The University town of Aberystwyth, on Cardigan Bay, is home to the National Library of Wales, a prestigious art/theatre centre, a reconstructed Victorian Camera Obscura, and more than its share of pubs. Borth - famed for its long sandy beach, and the southern Snowdonia National Park, which has a wealth of good walking and scenic landscapes to explore, are both within a 10-mile drive. The internationally renowned Centre for Alternative Technology also makes for an interesting day out. Dolgellau 20 miles. Shop 1 mile, pub 2 miles.
