Lydford: Village on Dartmoor’s western edge, of Saxon origin and medieval importance (castle ruins), now famous for its gorge (Nat. Trust, very beautiful walk by the River Lyd with pools, boulders and waterfalls, deep in woods). Two good food pubs, church, shop; trout/sea trout fishing in the Lyd; riding stables locally. Sea/beaches, about 25 miles, north or south coasts. Roadford Lake, 9 miles. Tavistock (market town), 5 miles. The amazing tor-top church at Brentor, 3 miles.

... a mile from the centre of Lydford (but only  mile from excellent food pub) and  a mile from the open moor (rivers/pools for swimming), two semi-detached cottages on a 12 acre farm with historic British rare breed cattle, sheep and goats. From February 2008, ‘Open Farm’ to visitors (daily 10am-4pm) with tea room and teaching studio. Wonderful wetland gardens to wander and visitors can help with the feeding and care of the animals. Holidaymakers will be welcome to enjoy the facilities during their stay.

The cottages are designed and furnished to a high standard, each has its own enclosed paved patio (table/chairs, barbecue) with wonderful south-westerly views (brilliant sunsets). Small pond (unfenced); orchard with children’s play area (slide, swings). Stabling and grazing for horses available (good riding area); very peaceful. Great for two family parties to share.

Ash Cottage (on the right in picture) has small hall, off which a spacious living room with terracotta-tiled floor with rugs, comfy sofas, CD player, nice pictures, doors to patio. Well-equipped fitted kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, gas hob and electric oven). Downstairs loo (washbasin, washing machine). Stairs from hall up to three bedrooms - one double with views down the valley, and two twin, all prettily decorated and comfortable. Bathroom (suite plus bath-shower) and separate loo.
