Chagford: One of the liveliest, friendliest, most popular and attractive large villages in Devon. There is nowhere quite like it. Well away from any main road. Pubs and excellent shops round its square: mostly old buildings; all in the shelter of high Dartmoor. Past it the River Teign (salmon, trout and sea-trout fishing) hurries through woods and meadows, a gorge, over salmon weirs, below extraordinary Castle Drogo (National Trust) and its lovely estate. Lots of walks; superb views. Children's playground (swings, slide); tennis courts; swimming pool (solar heated), mile. Excellent and beautifully sited cricket/football ground with fine pavilion/ clubhouse. The open moor, 2 miles; golf, 3; Exeter, 17; the sea (beaches), about 20. ... and about 1 miles east of Chagford and 2 from Moretonhampstead, beside a lane, a little cottage attached to the owners' farmhouse of a 300 acre mixed farm (cattle, sheep, free range poultry) including woodland and ponds (wild duck often). You are welcome on the farm and to use the owners' garden - small lawn with old apple tree in front, another with barbecue at the back; barn where swallows always nest is next door.
Inside, living room (woodburner, big ceiling beams, pictures/prints) open to dining area and fitted kitchen (microwave). Stairs from living room up to landing (shelves of games, books) and two bedrooms - double and single (plus 2'6 bed if required). Bathroom (suite). Use of owners' washing machine and tumble drier. Fresh veg. when available. Very friendly and much appreciated place.
