Manaton: Little high village with pub, tennis court, children’s playground, very pretty round its fine granite church, in perhaps the most beautiful part of the Dartmoor National Park; very close are some of its most spectacular rock tors (Hound Tor, Bowerman’s Nose) and also lovely steep tree-filled valleys (Lustleigh Cleave). Golf driving range, 5 miles. Nearest shop, 5 miles. Popular with riders (stables not far); Chagford, 6; the sea (Teignmouth/ Torbay), about 15.
... and in the prettiest part of Manaton, next to the church and lych gate, and overlooking the village green, a marvellously spacious, ancient, stone, semi-detached, thatched cottage, very light with many windows (some stone-mullioned) on both sides. Small, enclosed, south-facing front garden with thatched summer house (furniture). Inside, renovated tactfully and considerately. Stone pathway leads to porch and hall off which is the slate-floored, well-equipped kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, washer-drier, combi-microwave, table, chairs, two window seats, Rayburn, Belfast sink, two ring electric hob, radio) and fridge-freezer in small larder. Unexpectedly large, comfortable living room with part exposed stone walls, fireplace (woodburner), CD player, books/games/videos. Downstairs shower-room (suite). Stairs (stairgate) up to three good-sized bedrooms - twin with excellent dual aspect views over the churchyard to the open moor and the village green, a double, and another twin; bathroom (suite); and shower-room (suite). No smoking. A peaceful cottage in a charming setting.
