Manaton: Little high village with pub, tennis court, children’s playground, very pretty round its fine granite church, in perhaps the most beautiful part of the Dartmoor National Park; very close are some of its most spectacular rock tors (Hound Tor, Bowerman’s Nose) and also lovely steep tree-filled valleys (Lustleigh Cleave). Golf driving range, 5 miles. Nearest shop, 5 miles. Popular with riders (stables not far); Chagford, 6; the sea (Teignmouth/ Torbay), about 15.
... on the edge of Manaton, an exceptionally attractive conversion of an ancient granite barn into a spacious cottage in a beautiful place. Peaceful, sheltered, it is in a lane in a hamlet of old cottages/farmhouses/trees, 400 yards from Manaton’s pub and about 3/4 mile walk through woods from Lustleigh Cleave/River Bovey. Next door to the owners’ granite former mill (working water wheel), it has its own charming, natural garden (lawn, granite boulders, oak trees, daffodils, garden furniture, barbecue). Woodland/moorland walks from the cottage.
Inside, excellent decor, lighting, furnishing: comfort and warmth; immense trouble taken; books, pictures, games. Upstairs, all open-plan pine ceiling to apex, picture windows at each end divided cleanly into living (woodburner) and dining areas and large, very well-equipped fitted kitchen (dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, freezer, polished pine floor, CD player). Gentle stairs (stairgates) down via half-landing (half-glazed door to garden) to hall, front door and two very pretty bedrooms double (brass bed, deep oak window sills) and twin and bathroom (suite plus shower). Phone for incoming calls and outgoing calls with phone card. Sleeps maximum of 4, including babies.
